One of the greatest home decorating tools are maps. Many people do not think to utilize maps in their home décor, but they add life and a bit of history to any room. A map is a historical piece which offers the viewer a portal into that time period, whether it be an antique map from years ago or a map that was published this year.
Maps change from year to year, even though new land is not necessarily being discovered. With better technology, maps become more accurate and the colors, designs, and text changes and each map offers a new perspective on a place.
As a decorating tool, maps can be used in many different ways. Wall maps are excellent pieces which enhance the look of the room and offer a great talking and entertaining point. Wall maps can vary in size ranging from small to the entire wall. Wall maps can enhance a room as a focal point or can bring out the other pieces in the room. Some people even like to use maps as a form of wallpaper, which brings in color to the design.
If an entire wall of maps seems a bit extreme to you then you can always do a framed map, putting a map into a frame gives in an elegant and artistic feel. Even though maps are historical documents, they are artistic pieces as well. Framing a map will allow you to hang a smaller size map up and make it feel like artwork.
Choosing a map to use can be tricky because there are so many options. A good way to narrow it down is to decide what type of map you want, for example, a world map, continent map, country map, city map, state map, etc. Once you have decided what type of map you want, you might want to list the places you have visited, places you love or have great memories in, and places you would like to visit. Once you narrow those down it will be much easier to choose which map will be right for your design.
Maps seem to be the forgotten decorating tool but they are one of the easiest to use because they can be used in almost any design setting.
