When Vinnie and Thelma decided to take a trip to India their friends were all jealous. Finally Dwight and Renee convinced them to let them go along, which at the beginning actually sounded like a great idea. However, only two weeks later they got together to discuss their plans and all four of them had different ideas on what they wanted to do and see. And this wasn’t limited to a specific city or region. Vinnie wanted to explore the temples of Delhi and he was insistent that since it was his original idea he got to have the final word. Of course this didn’t go over well with anyone else, particularly Thelma who argued that it was actually her idea. Renee said that it didn’t matter who came up with the idea, they were all going so they should all have an equal vote. She then stated that she thought Goa was probably the best choice and would have the most diverse attractions to suit all interests. Thelma thought that the beaches were the most attractive aspect of Goa and didn’t think that was a very good reason to choose it. She then stated that Mumbai was the best option since it too had amazing temples and cultural landmarks but was also the location of Bollywood, India’s largest film industry and she thought that would be fun to visit.
Dwight sat back throughout most of the discussions and then finally said that he felt like it would be a good idea to divide their time equally between all of the options to be fair to everyone. No one really liked that idea, even though it sounded like a solid solution theoretically, because it didn’t seem like they would be able to spend much time in any of the locations to really make it worth the trip. Finally Renee suggested that plan an Indian food potluck dinner for the following week. They all had to bring a dish and they would also invite their friends the Wilsons and their neighbor Maude and ask them to vote on their favorite dish. The winner would then be awarded the decision of choosing which five star hotel India they were going to stay in. Vinnie thought that was a ridiculous idea and brought out a deck of cards. With aces high he told everyone to draw a card and the highest card would win. Thelma drew the king of clubs and determined that the group would visit Mumbai.

With its fantastic island culture, Ibiza is a haven for those who are looking for a paradise during the day, and another kind of paradise at night. The days and nights blend together here, and more often than not it’s because people are staying out until the sun comes up, dancing to their favorite DJ’s and enjoying new friendships in a lively social scene. Located in the Balearic islands, with its rich Spanish Mediterranean culture, and the centuries of history that have left their imprints here on the geographies and the traditions, there is a fantastic scene going on these days. It has a reputation for some of the most outrageously fun parties in the hemisphere, and part of this is due to the foresight and sensibility of the club owners, looking to push the forms of music forward, to the delight of huge audiences. The audiences, of course, make up the other part of the equation, and it’s the willingness of tourists to explore and experience the limits of music that make it an ever-evolving and growing scene.
To find out whether or not this all hype, you’ll have to come and spend an evening or two at an Ibiza night club, and see if there might be something to it after all. Hardly anyone comes without being blown away, and dazzled by the amazing music and the spectacular floor shows. It’s been bringing in the celebrity circuit as well as the steady flow of young and restless members of the next generation, looking to define themselves in new and innovative ways. This is the spirit that drives Ibiza, and this is the spirit that drives DJ’s like Sven Vath, whose sets at Amnesia keep things flowing and evolving in spectacular directions.
Sven Vath has been an amazing presence in the electronic music scene since he began in 1982. He was one of the founding members of OFF, Organization for Fun, and he produces a steady and heady stream of fantastic house beats from his own production company, Cocoon Recordings based in Frankfurt. He plays a stunning number of gigs, and is very instrumental in helping new DJ’s get started in the industry. These are the kinds of international connections that are created here, and it’s exciting to be part of the fun.
