Sights of Dubai
Heather wanted to get belly dancing lesson, I just wanted a hot shower and a cold whatever I could get in Dubai, flying in from the hubbub of Jakarta (isn’t that a movie, Jakarta Hubbub? Well it ought to be) to the luxury Hotel Dubai and of course my niece Mary Ellen wanted me to get a pair of Aladdin toe curled slip shoes in pink if I could find them. After a neck straining examination of the towering Burj Dubai, supposed to be the tallest building in the world, that just seems to defy gravity and the laws of physics. What a very modern city, they seems to have an ice rink, a waterfall and a man made island everywhere you look. In fact, right next door to the Burj Dubai is the Dubai Fountain. We were there in the evening and watched an extensive and colorful show of lights and crazy music, all part of the Dubai Mall, one of who knows how many malls in this land of malls, where you can walk around in air conditioned comfort and not spend anything if you do not want to. Of course, skiing is an option at Ski Dubai, what would you do in the desert, other than head out to the Palm Jumeirah, a big palm tree shaped man made island and can tour it by,of all things, a monorail. We got hungry looking at all this incredible development and checked out some Indian restaurants, and we had some very good food. It was easy to find falafel inexpensively, as well as cheap Pakistani food, and of course McDonalds. Roti is very good here too, it is like Indian bread and is baked in a clay oven. These are all inexpensive budget ways to eat and eat well in Dubai. You can also go upscale and up in price for Japanese and French as well, if the wallet can handle it.
